Description

Amla is a powder obtained from the fruit of the Emblica Officinalis tree. The amla fruit, also known as Indian gooseberry, is an edible fruit extremely rich in vitamin C. It contains 20 times more vitamin C than an orange. Even when dried, it contains tannins that prevent vitamin C loss. Vitamin C is an antioxidant that fights free radicals that cause many chronic diseases such as arthritis, high blood pressure, heart-related problems, Alzheimer's and cancer. Vitamin C is also necessary for our body's natural defences and triggering healing mechanisms. Not only the fruit but all other parts of the plant are widely used in Ayurvedic medicine.
Amla powder forms Triphala, together with Terminalia chebula and Terminalia belerica, a mix of powders with a detoxifying and regenerating effect on the intestinal mucosa, digestive, antioxidant, stimulating the general metabolism (by increasing the absorption of nutrients in the intestinal mucosa), capillary-protective, anti-stress (by stimulating adrenergic function), cardiotonic, antihypertensive, tonic, hepatic, hypolipidemic, anti-inflammatory, expectorant, antiviral (HIV, herpes), antibacterial, antitumour, antiallergic. Amla improves protein synthesis through which body tissues, especially muscles, are strengthened and toned. It is therefore very useful to athletes and those who exercise regularly for maintaining muscle health and eliminating toxic products as a result of muscle activity. Amla improves calcium absorption, helping to form, maintain and repair bones, teeth, nails and hair, maintain natural hair colour and delay premature hair bleaching. In addition, it supports the strengthening of hair follicles. Amla is best to be used as an ingredient in our diet on a regular basis. It can be used as an alternative to tamarind, lemon or other fruits to add flavour to dishes in the form of dried powder, fresh juice or for dressing, given on grating.
Amla is abundant in natural antioxidants that help reduce free radicals and boost immune response. It also helps neutralize toxins and supports the health of the urinary and reproductive systems. Laboratory tests confirm that Amla has more than 5 times stronger antioxidant action than spirulina.
