Baobabul - the tree "with roots up"

Baobabs, nicknamed and "bottom-up" trees have their origins in Madagascar, Africa and Australia. In fact, the baobab tree is the national symbol of Madagascar. The traditional food of the inhabitants of tropical Africa includes baobab fruits, a tree that also appears on the coat of arms of Senegal.
Baobabs reach heights between 5 and 30 meters and the diameter of the trunk reaches between 7 and 11 meters. It is believed that baobabs live for thousands of years, which is difficult to verify given that the trunk of the baobab does not have growth rings like other trees and especially that human age does not allow direct verification of this. However, the carbon-14 test can give valuable clues about the age of baobabs. It is said that a baobab can reach the age of 5,000 years. In African culture, the baobab is nicknamed the “Finger of God.” Antoine de Saint-Exupery wrote in “The Little Prince”: “... baobabs are not trees, but trees as big as churches and that if they took with them even a whole herd of elephants, this herd still couldn't hack even a single baobab. " The owners of Sunland Farm (Limpopo, South Africa) have built a pub called "The Big Baobab Pub" inside the empty trunk of the upstairs baobab reminiscent of 47 meters in circumference that was dated to be over 6,000 years old.
No less impressive is the baobab fruit, which is edible. Its slightly sour taste is very pleasant. Roasted seeds can also be consumed, which replace coffee or from which edible oil can be extracted. From the pulp of fresh or dried fruits, mixed with water, a delicious refreshing juice is made.
The properties of the baobab fruit are multiple: in addition to the high content of vitamin C (3 times more than kiwi and 6 times more than oranges), it has an amount of calcium twice that of milk and fiber that make it low blood sugar levels. In Africa, the fruit of the baobab tree has been a valuable supplier of vitamin C, calcium and iron for centuries. Baobab also contains antioxidants and probiotics, and improves the immune system.

Daily dose: 2 teaspoons (12 gr / day) in lemonades, juices, muesli, yogurt.
