Frankincense is the resin of a tree that grows wild in South-East Asia, which has been used in traditional medicine for more than 4,000 years and has been the subject of hundreds of modern medical studies over the last ten to twenty years. This plant is a real revelation in therapy, being used to treat some of today's most serious diseases, such as cancer, asthma, memory and reasoning disorders or chronic joint diseases. The range of conditions where frankincense is used successfully is astonishingly wide.

Standardised frankincense extract is validated as a medicine by hundreds of scientific studies demonstrating its therapeutic value. Standardised extract is used in boswellic acid, which must be at least 40% for optimal therapeutic effects. Non-standardised frankincense extracts are also available, but results with these are poor.

In patients with chronic progressive hepatitis, taking frankincense extract stops the process of fibrosis of the liver and progression to cirrhosis.

Frankincense, the cardiovascular system and the heart

Unlike synthetic cytostatics, which affect both malignant and healthy cells, frankincense extract only destroys mutated cells. What types of cancer is boswellic acid effective in? Its action has been tested in more than 40 cancer sites. It is effective in breast, colon, rectal, pancreatic, liver, bladder, stomach, brain (meningioma, neuroblastoma, glioma), oral, pharyngeal, oesophageal and lung cancers.

Taken internally, frankincense extract reduces joint pain and inflammation, increases joint flexibility, increases exercise capacity (it has been shown, for example, to enable patients with rheumatoid arthritis or osteoarthritis of the knees to walk longer distances.

Frankincense, memory and keeping brain function intact Research has shown truly spectacular therapeutic effects of frankincense extract on the brain. The effects of this plant are so numerous that they may seem incredible, and yet: frankincense extract improves short-term memory, including in the elderly, preventing Alzheimer's; frankincense extract increases spatial orientation and visual memory; in young people, taking frankincense increases the number of neuronal connections and improves long-term memory.

Frankincense, depression and anxiety

A substance contained in this resin (incensol acetate) has both antidepressant and anxiolytic effects. A single dose of frankincense increases mental alertness and the mind's readiness for activity, promptly eliminating states of obsessive sadness, apathy and lack of initiative. Incense cures lasting several weeks induce a state of mental stability, preventing the emergence of states of fear for no apparent reason, such as panic attacks.

In traditional Southeast Asian medicine, whole frankincense oil is used to reduce the size of urinary calculi and to prevent new ones from forming after the removal of existing ones.
