Sea buckthorn is multifunctional, edible and nutritious, although very acidic and astringent, unpleasant when served raw, except when frozen to reduce astringency, and / or mixed with sweet substances such as apple juice or grape juice.
Fruits have a high content of vitamin C - between 114 - 1550 mg per 100 grams with an average content (695 mg per 100 grams) about 12 times higher than 50 mg of vitamin C per 100 grams found in oranges - what which places sea buckthorn among the richest plant sources of vitamin C.
In addition to being nutritious, the juice has a freezing point of -22 degrees Celsius, allowing it to remain liquid even at temperatures below zero degrees.
Sea buckthorn can be used in pies, jams, lotions and liqueurs.
